JAMMU, August 2, 2025 : Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday called on the Centre to revisit the 2015 Agenda of Alliance forged between PDP and BJP, asserting that the document still offers a “respectable and realistic” path toward resolving Jammu and Kashmir’s ongoing crisis.
Speaking at a press conference, Mehbooba said the BJP’s current approach in J&K has “completely failed” to deliver peace, stability, or development. She claimed the revocation of Article 370 on August 5, 2019, marked the beginning of J&K’s political and economic decline.
“The promises of peace and prosperity have turned hollow. Instead of normalcy, we’ve seen rising alienation, mass detentions under UAPA and PSA, and increasing disillusionment among the youth,” she said.
Mufti stressed that any dialogue with Pakistan should be preceded by engagement with the people of J&K. “People are silent today, but a volcano is building. The BJP has only managed to suppress voices, not resolve the issues,” she warned.
Referring to the Agenda of Alliance, which was formulated during the PDP-BJP coalition government from 2015 to 2018, she said the document advocated opening cross-border routes, revoking AFSPA from peaceful areas, transferring power projects to J&K, and pursuing political reconciliation.
“It wasn’t just a political pact—it was a bridge between J&K and the rest of India. It is still relevant and can serve as a roadmap if implemented sincerely,” she said, adding that the document drew from recommendations made by UPA-era working groups.
Highlighting her late father Mufti Mohammad Sayeed’s vision, she recalled similar efforts made during PDP’s earlier coalition with Congress in 2002 to bring dignity and peace to the region.
Mehbooba also said Prime Minister Modi, like Indira Gandhi and Vajpayee, has the political capital to make bold moves. “If he shows statesmanship and embraces a humanitarian approach instead of using J&K as a political tool, a lasting solution is possible,” she said.
