JAMMU, Aug 22, 2025 : With the Monsoon Session of Parliament offering no progress on the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday said the struggle for it will continue with renewed resolve.
“Leave it now, the hope has gone, the water has crossed over. We will start our process from here. We had hoped the promises made to us would be fulfilled, but if we need to struggle and work harder, we are ready to do so,” Abdullah told reporters on the sidelines of the 56th Raising Day of Sainik School, Nagrota, where he also inaugurated the Triveni Girls Hostel.
The National Conference leader also accused the Centre of misusing proposed legislation on the offices of prime minister, chief ministers, and ministers to target opposition leaders. “So far, action has only been against the opposition. If the aim is to end corruption, what has been achieved since 2014? No law is inherently bad, but its misuse makes it wrong,” he said.
Abdullah warned the BJP that “laws weaponised today against others could tomorrow be used against their own.” He said the matter now lies with the parliamentary committee and he will await its decision.
On the dismissal of two government employees over alleged terror links, Abdullah said the issue concerned the Raj Bhavan and the state government had no role. He added that relief measures for victims of the recent cloudburst were underway and would be expanded if needed after assessment.
