“Former MLA Usman Majid, locals demand action days this becomes a routine”
Bandipora,: After expensive medicines found destroyed on Bandipora -Sopore road earlier this month, now the bundles of unexpired and expired medcines have been found destroyed and blazed in trench of Primary Health center Chontimulla of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
Speaking with the media Bilal Ahmad a local’s resident said the hospital caters thousands of residents of several area’s like Arin, Sumalar A, Sumlar B Shokbaba, Surriender who depends on this hospital for basic health care facilities but instead of giving medicines to local population this is very unfortunate that the medicines have been destroyed and blazed especially medicines which are yet to expire.
“We hope our administration will set up a committee on this and take legal action against those found involved in these works,” he lamented. “We are thankful for government for providing us basic health care facility at doorstep but instead of providing relief t9 local population the hospital has became a headache for us, sometimes doctors remain absent from their duties or most of the times we have been asked to buy medicines from private shops for which we need to travel several kilometers,” he added.
“These medicines could have been distributed to the people who need them,” said a local activist. “Instead, they are being wasted and disposed of in a way that is dangerous to both the environment and the public. We need a full investigation to find out how this happened and to ensure it doesn’t happen again.”
The improper disposal of medicines, particularly in a public hospital, has raised serious questions about the accountability and oversight within the local healthcare system. Residents are demanding answers and are calling for immediate action to be taken against those responsible for these incidents.
“The authorities need to take this seriously,” a local resident said. “This isn’t just about waste—this is about people’s lives. If they can’t even handle medicines properly, how can we trust them with our health? We need to see some real changes, and we need to see them now,” former MLA Bandipora Usman Majid said.
He also demanded strict action against this and said the burning of medicine at public places could affect the local population.
Local residents appealed LG Sinha and District administration Banfipora to look into the matter and take action against those involved in these illegal practices.
Meanwhile officials from Director health services Kashmir said that they will take up this issue with BMO and CMO Bandipora and they will be directed to look into this.
