JAMMU, August 5, 2025 : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday marked the sixth anniversary of the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A with widespread celebrations across Jammu and Kashmir, hailing it as a transformative moment that ushered in constitutional equality, development, and dignity for all citizens.
Party workers organized Tiranga Yatras, hoisted the national flag, and held patriotic events in cities, towns, and border villages throughout the Union Territory. The day commemorates the August 5, 2019 decision by the Narendra Modi-led government to revoke J&K’s special status and fully integrate it with the Indian Union.
Addressing a gathering in Akhnoor, J&K BJP president Sat Sharma said the abrogation restored the rights of historically marginalized communities and unified the region under the Indian Constitution. “This day reminds us of our collective achievement. The neglected and oppressed have found a voice,” he said.
BJP general secretary Ashok Koul termed the move a “new dawn” of governance and development. “Today, the benefits of welfare schemes are reaching the last person. The BJP has ensured inclusive growth,” he said.
Senior BJP leaders participated in celebratory events held in all districts, including Udhampur, Doda, Kishtwar, Rajouri, Kathua, Samba, Reasi, Ramban, Poonch, and parts of the Kashmir Valley.
Party secretary Pawan Sharma described August 5 as the “real independence day” for the people of J&K. “The removal of Articles 370 and 35A ended years of discrimination. For the first time, Gujjar-Bakarwals, West Pakistani refugees, Valmiki Samaj members, and women received equal constitutional rights,” he said, crediting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for the “visionary and courageous” move.
The BJP SC Morcha also celebrated the anniversary at the party headquarters in Trikuta Nagar. Morcha president Dharminder Kumar said the decision brought J&K closer to the rest of India and promised a brighter future.
BJP vice president Rekha Mahajan, addressing the gathering, highlighted the progress since 2019. “This is a new era of peace, prosperity, and progress for Jammu and Kashmir,” she said.
