Jammu, September 4, 2025 : In a significant relief gesture, BJP legislators and parliamentarians have pledged a combined ₹35.5 crore to support ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts in the flood-hit areas of Jammu, where torrential rains, cloudbursts, and flash floods have claimed over 110 lives in the past fortnight.
The announcement was made by Leader of Opposition in the J&K Assembly, Sunil Sharma, during a press briefing in Jammu.
Breakdown of Contributions
Sharma said all 28 BJP MLAs have contributed ₹1 crore each, amounting to ₹28 crore, while party MPs pledged ₹2.5 crore each, raising the total contribution to ₹35.5 crore.
He added that the Union Government has already released ₹209 crore to the UT Disaster Response Fund (UTDRF) and constituted a high-level committee tasked with submitting its report within two days. Based on the report, a comprehensive relief package is expected to be finalised soon.
Central & State Coordination
According to Sharma, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has urged chief ministers of other states to extend financial support to Jammu and Kashmir in its recovery. The Centre, he said, has directed the Army, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), and allied agencies to continue extending full assistance in a “mission mode”.
Criticism of UT Government
While acknowledging the devastation caused across the region, Sharma lashed out at the NC-led J&K government, accusing it of inadequate response.
“Their efforts are nothing but lip service and eyewash. The government failed to act on a war footing despite having control over crucial departments like power and water supply. The people of Jammu have once again faced a step-motherly attitude,” he alleged.
In contrast, Sharma praised the L-G administration and the Centre for their proactive role, particularly during rescue operations on the Mata Vaishno Devi route.
Relief Measures Outlined
Detailing upcoming initiatives, Sharma said:

BJP MLAs and senior leaders will visit affected families between September 4–6.

Medical camps will be organised on September 9.

Cleanliness drives will be conducted on September 10–11 in flood-hit localities.

A request has been made for rehabilitation of nearly 200 families affected by the recent cloudburst in Margee village, Warwan.

Farmers have been urged to be allowed to sell accumulated aggregates on their own to generate income.

The Union Home Minister has also been requested to direct the Food Corporation of India (FCI) to ensure free ration distribution among affected families.
Sharma reiterated that the BJP would stand firmly with the people of Jammu in their time of distress and ensure relief measures reach the grassroots.
