Srinagar, Jun 27, 2025 : The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Friday filed a chargesheet before the Court of Additional Judge Anti-Corruption, Kashmir, against two individuals in a bribery case involving a ₹9,000 demand for processing land record documents.
An ACB spokesperson said the chargesheet in FIR No. 15/2022 has been filed under Section 173 Cr.P.C. against:
-
Jamil Hussain Khan, then Patwari, Halqa Baghat-e-Shoor, Owanta Bhawan, Soura, Tehsil Eidgah – Charged under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018) and Section 120-B IPC.
-
Shafat-ur-Rehman Bhat, Retired Patwari – Charged under Section 12 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and Section 120-B IPC.
The case originated from a complaint alleging that Khan, through his associate Bhat, demanded a ₹9,000 bribe for processing revenue documents. A trap was laid by the ACB on April 11, 2022, which led to the recovery of the tainted bribe amount from the accused.
Following a thorough investigation and government sanction for prosecution, the challan was produced before the court on June 27, 2025, for judicial determination.
Notably, accused Shafat-ur-Rehman Bhat had previously been convicted in a separate corruption case registered in 2009. The next hearing in the present case is scheduled for August 13, 2025.
