Leh, October 3, 2025 : The Border Roads Organisation (BRO), through its flagship Project Himank, has once again rewritten history by surpassing its own Guinness World Record for the highest motorable road. The historic milestone was achieved on the Likaru-Mig La-Fukche road in Leh district, where the team reached Mig La Pass at an altitude of 19,400 feet, overtaking the previous record set at Umling La (19,024 feet).
Led by Brig Vishal Srivastava, Chief Engineer of Project Himank, the BRO team proudly hoisted the National and BRO flags at this record-breaking height, marking yet another feather in the organisation’s cap.
The road connectivity from Likaru to Mig La Pass and onward to Fukche village holds immense strategic and infrastructural significance, forming the third crucial axis from the Hanle sector to Fukche, near the Indo-China border. Over the years, BRO has been instrumental in constructing 11 of the world’s 14 highest motorable passes, demonstrating unmatched engineering capabilities in some of the planet’s most challenging terrains.
Apart from its strategic importance, the Mig La Pass is poised to become a major tourism hotspot in Ladakh. Visitors can experience breathtaking views of the Indus Valley and an exhilarating journey to the pass, making it a once-in-a-lifetime adventure. While the route is challenging, it promises unparalleled natural beauty and thrill, reflecting the spirit of adventure that Ladakh is known for.
This historic achievement is a testament to the indomitable spirit, engineering excellence, and unwavering dedication of the BRO, which continues to push the boundaries of road construction in extreme environments.
