Jammu, February 1, 2026 : Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday hailed the Union Budget 2026–27 as a pragmatic and future-oriented financial roadmap that prioritises economic acceleration, creation of future-ready infrastructure and sustained growth momentum, while balancing ambitious development goals with social welfare.
The Lieutenant Governor said the Budget lays a clear and decisive pathway for India to achieve the $5 trillion economy milestone within the next few years, while also presenting an ambitious vision to attain developed nation status in less than two decades.
Expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, LG Sinha particularly welcomed the announcement of ecologically sustainable mountain trails in Jammu and Kashmir, stating that the initiative would generate fresh employment opportunities and give renewed impetus to the tourism sector in the Union Territory.
“The Budget for 2026–27 emphasises accelerating economic expansion, strengthening infrastructure and advancing manufacturing capabilities across seven strategic sectors, while maintaining a steadfast commitment to welfare,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
He noted that the Budget would have a transformative impact on emerging industries, including renewed momentum for semiconductor development through India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) 2.0, and a major push towards reducing India’s dependence on imports of rare earth elements through the creation of specialised rare earth zones.
Highlighting the focus on Artificial Intelligence, job creation and service sector expansion, LG Sinha said these measures would significantly strengthen India’s competitive edge across all economic domains.
“This progressive financial blueprint establishes a strong foundation for comprehensive sectoral growth and global prominence. With manufacturing, infrastructure, MSMEs, healthcare, urban development, electronics and supply chains forming the backbone of future strategy, the country is well-positioned to expand domestic production and ensure substantial employment generation,” he added.
The Lieutenant Governor further observed that youth, women and farmers stand to gain unprecedented empowerment under the Budget’s provisions, reinforcing inclusive and sustainable development across the nation
