Srinagar, October 6, 2025 : Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday inaugurated the 69th National School Games at the TRC Football Ground, Srinagar, by ceremonially kicking off a football, marking the official opening of the week-long sporting event.
Addressing a vibrant gathering of young athletes, coaches, and officials, the Chief Minister highlighted the importance of sports in fostering national unity and youth development.
“Sports build bridges of unity and friendship. I am delighted to be here at the inauguration of the 69th National School Games,” Abdullah said.
He emphasized that sports serve as a medium for friendship, discipline, and understanding among youth from diverse regions of the country, and assured the participants of the government’s full support throughout the event.
“If any of you face inconvenience, shortage of warm clothing, or any other requirement, do not hesitate to approach us. We will do everything possible to make your stay and participation comfortable,” he assured.
Encouraging the athletes to cherish the experience beyond competition, Abdullah added:
“Winning is not as important as taking part. I sincerely appreciate your spirit and enthusiasm in coming here to participate.”
The 69th edition of the National School Games features 30 teams representing various states and Union Territories, competing in football, wushu, taekwondo, and table tennis across six venues in Srinagar.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by Minister for Youth Services & Sports Satish Sharma, Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani, MLA Lal Chowk Sheikh Ahsan Ahmed, and senior officials from the Sports Department and J&K Sports Council.
