SRINAGAR, August 17, 2026 : Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday met a series of delegations and individuals at Raabita, Srinagar, taking up issues related to public welfare, tourism, sports, labour, trade and industry.
The Chief Minister gave a patient hearing to the concerns raised by the visiting delegations and assured them that genuine issues would be examined and addressed on priority.
Beerwah MLA Raises Constituency Issues
CM Omar Abdullah met Beerwah MLA Dr Shafi Ahmad Wani, who apprised him of various matters concerning his constituency. A delegation from Beerwah also accompanied the legislator during the meeting.
The Chief Minister assured the delegation that the issues brought to his notice would be appropriately examined.
₹1 Lakh Award for Pulwama MMA Fighter
The Chief Minister also met emerging professional MMA fighter Owais Yaqoob from Pulwama and congratulated him for his achievements in mixed martial arts.
Recognising his performances on the international stage, Omar Abdullah felicitated Yaqoob with a cash award of ₹1 lakh.
Yaqoob recently secured a first-round TKO victory over Bulgaria’s Delian Georgiev, adding another notable achievement to his growing sporting career.
Tourism Sector Issues Discussed
A delegation of the Travel Agents Association of Kashmir (TAAK), led by Secretary General Sajad Ahmad Kralyari, also called on the Chief Minister.
The delegation discussed various issues affecting Jammu and Kashmir’s tourism industry and placed its concerns and suggestions before the government.
The meeting comes as tourism stakeholders continue to seek measures aimed at strengthening the sector and improving the overall tourism ecosystem.
Labour Union Raises Social Security Rules
A delegation of the Kashmir Labour Union’s Federation, led by President Mohammad Ashraf Ganai, also met Omar Abdullah.
The delegation apprised the Chief Minister of its concerns and recommendations regarding the Draft Code on Social Security (Jammu and Kashmir) Rules, 2026.
The discussions focused on issues affecting workers and the need to ensure appropriate social-security safeguards.
Trade & Industry Concerns
Tarun Singla, Senior Vice President of the Bari Brahmana Industrial Association, also called on the Chief Minister.
He discussed various matters concerning trade and industry in Jammu and Kashmir, including issues relevant to the industrial sector and business community.
Government Assures Priority Action
CM Omar Abdullah listened to the concerns and suggestions presented by all the delegations and individuals and assured them that genuine issues would be examined and addressed on priority.
Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary and Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani were also present on the occasion.
The series of meetings reflects the government’s efforts to maintain direct engagement with public representatives, sports personalities, tourism stakeholders, workers and the industrial community and address issues affecting different sectors of Jammu and Kashmir.
