JAMMU, July 28, 2025 : Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday visited the family of Parvez Ahmad, a 21-year-old Gujjar youth who was killed in a police crossfire during an anti-drug operation in Jammu’s Satwari area.
The Chief Minister, accompanied by Minister Javed Rana and Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani, flew in from Srinagar and went straight to Parvez Ahmad’s residence in the Nikki Tawi area to offer condolences and express solidarity with the grieving family.
“CM Omar Abdullah assured the family that justice will be served,” said Sheikh Bashir Ahmed, Provincial Secretary of the National Conference. “We are hopeful that the truth will come out and those responsible will be held accountable.”
Abdullah had earlier termed the incident “deeply regrettable” and called for a transparent and time-bound investigation, stressing that the use of force by police must be calibrated and not indiscriminate.
“J&K has suffered immensely in the past due to such incidents. The lessons must not be forgotten,” Abdullah posted on X.
Parvez Ahmad was killed last Thursday during a police operation when officers were allegedly pursuing suspected drug peddlers. The family has strongly contested the police version, calling the encounter “staged” and claiming that Parvez was innocent. The killing has triggered protests and anger within the Gujjar community, demanding accountability.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted, and a magisterial probe is already underway. Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary, who also visited the family on Sunday, echoed the call for a fair and impartial inquiry.
National Conference Minister Javed Rana visited the family on Saturday, while leaders from Congress and BJP have also met the bereaved family to offer condolences.
“Those found responsible must face the harshest punishment. We believe the matter will be taken to its logical conclusion,” said Sheikh Bashir.
