Jammu, June 3, 2026 : The Jammu and Kashmir Congress on Wednesday staged a protest in Jammu against rising inflation, growing unemployment and repeated paper leak incidents, accusing the government of failing to address the economic challenges confronting ordinary citizens and the aspirations of the youth.

The protest, led by senior leaders of the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC), witnessed participation from party workers, women, youth activists and local residents who voiced concerns over the increasing cost of living and shrinking employment opportunities.

Addressing the gathering, JKPCC Working President Raman Bhalla described inflation as one of the most pressing issues affecting households across the region. He alleged that continuous increases in the prices of essential commodities, including food items, cooking gas, fuel, medicines and electricity, have placed a heavy burden on family budgets, particularly impacting economically weaker sections.

Bhalla further claimed that rising fuel prices had triggered a chain reaction across the economy, increasing transportation costs and consequently pushing up the prices of food grains, vegetables and other daily necessities. He urged the government to take immediate measures to stabilize prices and provide relief to vulnerable sections of society.

Calling for a comprehensive economic strategy, Bhalla stressed the need for large-scale job creation, enhanced investment in productive sectors and stronger social welfare initiatives aimed at improving household incomes and restoring public confidence in the economy.

Former minister Yogesh Sawhney said the protest reflected growing public frustration over the rising cost of living and economic uncertainty. He asserted that the Congress would continue to raise issues affecting the common people through democratic protests and institutional forums until meaningful relief measures were introduced.

Meanwhile, JKPCC Chief Spokesperson Ravinder Sharma expressed concern over the impact of inflation on businesses and employment prospects. He stated that higher prices reduce consumer spending, adversely affect commercial activity and limit job opportunities for young people.

Sharma also highlighted the issue of repeated examination paper leaks, alleging that such incidents have deepened anxiety and frustration among students and job aspirants who invest significant time and effort in preparing for competitive examinations.

The Congress leadership reiterated its demand for effective measures to curb inflation, generate employment opportunities and ensure transparency and accountability in recruitment and examination processes.
