Jammu, July 24, 2025 : In a major boost to Jammu and Kashmir’s export ecosystem, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has formally authorised the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) to issue non-preferential Certificates of Origin via the DGFT’s online Trade Connect portal.
This move enables exporters from the Union Territory to obtain the essential trade document locally through a trusted body, eliminating the need for physical submission and processing.
A Certificate of Origin is a critical document required by importing countries to verify the origin of goods and ensure compliance with trade regulations. The development places KCCI among a select group of business chambers across India entrusted with this responsibility.
Effective January 1, 2025, the DGFT has mandated a complete shift to digital issuance of Certificates of Origin, discontinuing manual processing nationwide to streamline export documentation and align with international trade norms.
With this designation, KCCI becomes the first and only authorised chamber in Jammu and Kashmir to process these certificates online. Exporters can now apply through the Trade Connect portal, where KCCI will verify and approve applications.
Terming the development a “landmark achievement,” KCCI President Javid Ahmad Tenga said the move would significantly benefit J&K’s export-driven sectors such as handicrafts, carpets, shawls, horticulture, agri-products, and processed food items.
He thanked the DGFT for the recognition and reaffirmed the chamber’s commitment to supporting and expanding Kashmir’s presence in global markets.
