Jammu, July 29, 2025 : Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has assured strict action in the killing of 21-year-old Parvez Ahmad, a Gujjar youth who died in police crossfire in Jammu’s Satwari area. “Our policy is clear—don’t touch the innocent, and don’t spare the guilty,” said the LG, while addressing a gathering.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted and a magisterial inquiry is underway. “Two officials have been suspended, and further action will follow based on the inquiry report,” Sinha added. The incident, which occurred last Thursday during a police chase of alleged drug peddlers, has triggered protests from the Gujjar community, who claim the encounter was staged.
The LG also distributed appointment letters to 80 next of kin of terror victims and highlighted stories of past civilian bravery and sacrifice, including Tara Devi of Kishtwar and Ashfaq Ahmed of Doda.
Reiterating the administration’s commitment, he said, “This is the beginning of a new era of justice in J&K.” He announced initiatives including a centralized database of terror-affected families, district-level helplines, and self-employment support. A mass distribution of appointment letters to families will take place on August 5 in Srinagar.
