Srinagar, August 5 : Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today handed over appointment letters to 158 Next of Kin (NoKs) of Kashmiri civilians killed by Pakistan-backed terrorists, marking a significant step toward justice and healing for the affected families.

Addressing an emotionally charged gathering, the LG paid heartfelt tributes to the civilian martyrs and praised the courage of families who endured decades of trauma. He said their long wait for justice is finally coming to an end.

“I want to tell the loved ones of martyrs — the dreams of your father or your mother will now be fulfilled,” said the Lieutenant Governor.

The families shared painful stories of their loss and suffering at the hands of Pakistan-sponsored terrorists. The LG noted that the wounds inflicted by terrorism have scarred generations, but steps are now being taken to offer healing, dignity, and hope.

Stories of Justice After Decades

  • Abdul Majid Mir, a resident of Sheikhpura, Baramulla, was kidnapped and killed in 2004. His son, Mudasir Majid, received a government job today after years of struggle.

  • Abdul Majeed Wani of Anantnag was killed in 1994. His son, Suhail Majeed, has now been given an appointment letter after 31 years.

  • SPO Manzoor Ahmad Rather was killed in 2000. His son, Khurshid Ahmad Rather, was among those appointed today, ending a 25-year wait.

  • Parvez Ahmad Dar, who lost both his father (1996) and brother (2004) to terrorism, finally received closure today as the administration extended support.

The LG emphasized that no amount of financial support or employment can truly fill the void left behind, but it is the government’s responsibility to ensure these families live with dignity and pride.

“We will not rest until every family that suffered at the hands of terrorists gets justice,” the LG asserted.

New Jammu & Kashmir Post August 5, 2019

Reflecting on the post-Article 370 era, the LG said that August 5, 2019, marked the beginning of a new, equal, and just Jammu and Kashmir.

“Jobs are no longer given to terrorists, but to the true martyrs of this Union Territory. This is the new Jammu and Kashmir — where the tears of ordinary citizens are wiped, not those of terrorists.”

He said a strong message has been sent under PM Narendra Modi’s leadership:

“If terrorism is a state policy, it will meet a visible and forceful response.”

Ongoing Commitment to Terror Victim Families

The government has developed a dedicated web portal to process and expedite relief, appointments, and other forms of support for terror victim families. District and Divisional helplines have also been set up.

Today’s event follows significant outreach efforts in Baramulla (July 13) and Jammu (July 28). The remaining eligible families will receive their appointment letters at their respective district headquarters in the coming days.

Dignitaries Present

Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, DGP Nalin Prabhat, Principal Secretary Home Chandraker Bharti, and other senior civil and police officials were present during the function in Srinagar.
