NEW DELHI, August 5, 2025 : Former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik passed away on Tuesday at the age of 79 after a prolonged illness. He breathed his last at 1:12 PM at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in New Delhi, where he had been under intensive care for several weeks.

Malik’s personal staff confirmed his demise, stating that he had been battling multiple health issues and was admitted to the ICU for an extended period.

A veteran politician, Malik held several gubernatorial posts during his career, including in Jammu and Kashmir, Goa, Bihar, Meghalaya, and Odisha. He also served as a Member of both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha over his decades-long political journey.

His tenure as the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir was particularly notable, as he oversaw the state during the historic abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019.
