Dubai [UAE], Jul 14, 2025 : West Indies captain Hayley Matthews has been named the ICC Women’s Player of the Month for June 2025, marking her fourth career win of the award. With this latest accolade, she ties Australia’s Ash Gardner for the most ICC Women’s Player of the Month titles.
Matthews edged past South Africa’s Tazmin Brits and her own teammate Afy Fletcher following a standout performance in West Indies’ 2-1 T20I series win over South Africa at home. She also claimed the Player of the Series title for her all-round contributions.
In the T20I series, Matthews amassed 147 runs at a strike rate of 120.49 and an average of 73.50, including unbeaten knocks of 63 and 65*, helping West Indies come back from a 0-1 deficit. She also chipped in with two wickets through her effective off-spin.
Reacting to the recognition, Matthews said:
“It’s an honour to receive the Player of the Month award again. While I’ve been happy with my form, it’s more rewarding to contribute to our team’s success. This is just the beginning — there’s a lot more we want to achieve together.”
Despite a shoulder injury affecting her form in the ODI series, Matthews still made valuable contributions, scoring 40 and 56 runs and taking four wickets across the three matches, even as the West Indies fell 1-2 in the series.
Matthews previously won the ICC Women’s Player of the Month award in November 2021, October 2023, and April 2024.
