Jammu, September 2, 2025 : Continuous downpours in Banihal and adjoining stretches on Tuesday forced the suspension of traffic on the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway, barely a day after it was partially restored.
Officials said fresh landslides and shooting stones made travel unsafe. “With heavy rainfall, we cannot risk allowing traffic movement at this stage. Safety of commuters is our top priority,” a senior traffic officer said, urging travelers to check official advisories and avoid unnecessary trips.
Meanwhile, Mughal Road remains open and is witnessing smooth movement of vehicles.
The 250-km highway, a lifeline connecting Kashmir with the rest of India, often faces disruptions during rains, delaying essential supplies. With more showers forecast by the Meteorological Department, restoration teams remain on high alert.
