Srinagar, September 20, 2025 : Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday underscored the remarkable transformation of healthcare infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir, crediting both government initiatives and private sector participation for the progress achieved in recent years.

Speaking at the inauguration of Dr. Agarwal’s Eye Hospital in Srinagar, the LG said that J&K has emerged among the most developed regions in the country in terms of healthcare development.

“Before 2019, Jammu and Kashmir had only four medical colleges. Today, we have 11 medical colleges, two AIIMS, and a robust Indian System of Medicine (ISM) network,” LG Sinha stated. He emphasized that these expansions reflect the Union Territory’s commitment to bringing advanced healthcare facilities closer to the people.

Highlighting a major welfare measure, the LG reiterated that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s universal health coverage initiative, every citizen of J&K is entitled to ₹5 lakh health insurance, ensuring affordable and accessible medical care.

The Lieutenant Governor further said that medical infrastructure across the UT has expanded rapidly with the addition of super-specialty hospitals, private sector facilities, and new medical colleges in both Jammu and Kashmir divisions.

Expressing confidence in the role of the newly inaugurated hospital, Sinha noted that it will deliver quality eye care comparable to metropolitan cities and urged the management to extend their services to underserved areas. “Regular outreach camps in rural and border regions will be vital to ensure inclusive healthcare access,” he added.

The LG concluded by reaffirming the administration’s resolve to continue strengthening J&K’s healthcare system to meet the growing needs of its population.
