KATHUA, May 21, 2026 : Jammu & Kashmir Police on Thursday attached properties worth nearly ₹7 crore belonging to an alleged drug peddler detained under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act in Kathua district.

The action comes as part of the ongoing intensified crackdown against narcotics networks and the financial infrastructure linked to drug trafficking in the region.

According to officials, the attached properties include nearly 6 kanal and 18 marlas of land along with a single-storey residential house having a plinth area of approximately 2,107 square feet located in the Chak Sheikha area of Kathua district.

The properties belong to Harpaul Singh alias Balochi, a resident of Kathua, who is currently detained under the PIT-NDPS Act, 1988.

Investigators stated that the attached assets were prima facie identified as properties allegedly acquired through proceeds generated from illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.

Officials said the attachment proceedings were carried out under the directions of Senior Superintendent of Police Kathua, Mohita Sharma, after legal procedures established the properties as illegally acquired during the course of investigation.

Police further revealed that Harpaul Singh has been involved in four separate NDPS-related cases registered in Kathua district over the years.

The action has reportedly been welcomed by local residents, who described it as a strong and necessary step against the growing drug menace in the district.

J&K Police reiterated its commitment to making the region drug-free by targeting not only drug traffickers but also the financial assets and illegal properties allegedly created through narcotics trade.
