Srinagar, August 23, 2025 : The Special Judge Anti-Corruption, Anantnag, Ms. Masarat Roohi, on Saturday convicted Habibullah Kumar, a Junior Assistant in the Rural Development Department, in a bribery case and sentenced him to two years of simple imprisonment along with a fine of ₹21,000.
The case, registered under FIR No. 25/2009 by the then Vigilance Organization Kashmir (now ACB) on September 10, 2009, stemmed from a complaint filed by Bashir Ahmad Dar, a helper in the Block Development Office, Larkipora. Dar alleged that Kumar, then in-charge of establishment, demanded a bribe of ₹1,800 for preparing arrear bills of six newly promoted helpers.
Following the complaint, a trap was laid and Kumar was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe. After completion of the investigation, a chargesheet was filed before the court. The prosecution was conducted by Special Public Prosecutor Ajaz Ahmad Parvaiz.
After examining the evidence and hearing both sides, the court held Kumar guilty under Section 5(1)(d) read with Section 5(2) of the J&K Prevention of Corruption Act, Svt 2006. The court further ordered that in case of default in paying the fine, Kumar will undergo an additional six months of simple imprisonment.
