Jammu, September 16, 2025 : The much-awaited Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra is set to resume from September 17, 2025 (Wednesday), following a 22-day suspension, the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) announced today. The resumption is subject to favourable weather conditions as per the latest update shared via official communication channels.
The pilgrimage was suspended on August 26, 2025, just hours before a major landslide struck the route leading to the shrine, tragically resulting in the deaths of 34 pilgrims and injuries to 20 others. The incident prompted immediate suspension of the yatra to ensure the safety of devotees.
In recent days, the decision to resume the pilgrimage gained further urgency after a group of pilgrims staged a protest at Katra base camp, demanding the restoration of the yatra. The protest highlighted the public sentiment and urgency among devotees eager to complete their spiritual journey.
Initially, the Shrine Board had planned to reopen the yatra from September 14, 2025, but continuous heavy rainfall and unstable weather conditions forced an extension of the suspension period. This led to further unrest, with some devotees making repeated attempts to bypass security and proceed towards the shrine, violating official directives.
The Shrine Board emphasized that the pilgrimage will only resume if weather conditions remain favorable. Devotees are advised to monitor official channels for regular updates to ensure a safe and orderly pilgrimage experience.
