Baramulla, January 16, 2026 : Security forces on Friday recovered a live mortar shell in Baramulla district, which was later safely defused by the Army’s bomb disposal squad, officials said.
The shell was detected during digging work near an Army unit in the Rampur area of north Kashmir. Soon after the recovery, the area was immediately secured to prevent any untoward incident, and local police were informed.
Officials said an Army bomb disposal squad was rushed to the spot and successfully neutralised the live shell in the presence of police personnel, following all standard safety protocols.
No loss of life or damage to property was reported during the operation, they added.
Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and immediately inform security agencies if any suspicious or unexploded object is noticed, especially in areas where construction or digging work is underway.
