KARACHI, OCTOBER 18, 2026 : At least 18 workers were reportedly abducted and another injured after unidentified armed men attacked a marble mining site in Balochistan, Pakistan, on Sunday, October 18, 2026, according to police sources.

The incident has raised fresh security concerns in the troubled southwestern province, which has witnessed a surge in attacks and abductions targeting civilians and security personnel.

KEY DETAILS OF THE ATTACK

🔹 Mining Site Targeted: The attack took place early Sunday morning in the remote Naal area of Khuzdar district, where armed assailants reportedly stormed a marble mining site.

🔹 18 Workers Abducted: According to two police officers who spoke on condition of anonymity, the attackers rounded up workers present at the site and forcibly took 18 of them away.

🔹 One Worker Injured: At least one other worker sustained injuries during the attack. Most of those abducted reportedly belonged to nearby villages and surrounding areas.

🔹 Armed Assailants Fled: The attackers allegedly arrived on motorcycles and in other vehicles, opened fire and fled with the abducted workers.

🔹 No Claim of Responsibility: No individual or insurgent organisation had claimed responsibility for the attack at the time of the report.

🔹 Official Confirmation Pending: The report stated that police and the provincial government had yet to officially confirm the incident, with the initial details coming from two police officers speaking anonymously.

ANOTHER ABDUCTION INCIDENT IN BALOCHISTAN

The latest attack follows a separate incident on Saturday, October 17, 2026, in which armed men reportedly abducted 20 trainee police officers after hijacking their bus near Mastung on the Quetta–Karachi highway.

The trainee officers were associated with the Kalat Police Training Centre. Their whereabouts remained unknown at the time of the report.

The two incidents have intensified concerns over the safety of civilians and security personnel travelling or working in vulnerable areas of Balochistan.

WHY BALOCHISTAN REMAINS A SECURITY HOTSPOT

Balochistan, Pakistan’s largest province by area, borders Afghanistan and Iran and has experienced a prolonged insurgency, militant violence and recurring security operations.

In recent years, the province has witnessed attacks and abductions involving civilians, workers, police personnel and other security forces. The government has intensified counterterrorism operations in response to the deteriorating security situation.

However, responsibility for the latest mining-site attack remains unconfirmed, and no connection between the two reported abduction incidents has been established.

WHAT TO WATCH NEXT

Authorities’ official confirmation, efforts to locate the abducted workers and trainee police officers, and any claim of responsibility will be crucial developments in the coming days. The immediate priority remains establishing the victims’ whereabouts and ensuring their safe recovery.
