Victoria, Seychelles , June 27, 2026 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Seychelles on Saturday for a three-day official State Visit at the invitation of President Dr. Patrick Herminie. The visit marks another significant milestone in the enduring friendship between India and the island nation, with a focus on strengthening bilateral cooperation, maritime security, and regional prosperity in the Indian Ocean.
Upon his arrival at the Seychelles International Airport, Prime Minister Modi received a warm ceremonial welcome from President Herminie and senior government officials, including a ceremonial Guard of Honour.
Sharing his thoughts after landing, PM Modi wrote on X:
“Landed in Seychelles. Deeply appreciate the warm welcome extended at the airport by Dr Patrick Herminie. Seychelles is a valued maritime partner and a close friend in the Indian Ocean. Looking forward to a productive visit aimed at further strengthening our longstanding ties and enhancing cooperation for the benefit of the people of our nations.”
Before departing from New Delhi, the Prime Minister described Seychelles as a valued maritime neighbour and a key partner in India’s Vision MAHASAGAR (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions), highlighting the shared commitment of both nations towards the Global South and a secure, prosperous Indian Ocean.
During the visit, PM Modi will hold comprehensive bilateral talks with President Herminie, where both leaders are expected to review the full spectrum of India–Seychelles cooperation and exchange views on important regional and international developments.
As the Guest of Honour, Prime Minister Modi will also participate in Seychelles’ Golden Jubilee National Day celebrations, commemorating 50 years of the country’s independence. A contingent of the Indian Armed Forces, along with two Indian Navy ships, will take part in the celebrations, symbolizing the close defence and maritime partnership between the two countries.
The Prime Minister is also scheduled to address the National Assembly of Seychelles and interact with members of the vibrant Indian diaspora.
PM Modi last visited Seychelles in 2015, while President Patrick Herminie paid an official visit to India earlier in 2026, further strengthening the momentum of bilateral engagement.
India and Seychelles have enjoyed close diplomatic relations since Seychelles gained independence in 1976. Over the past five decades, cooperation has expanded across diverse sectors including maritime security, defence, healthcare, education, capacity building, climate resilience, sustainable development, and the blue economy.
The visit underscores India’s continued commitment to strengthening partnerships across the Indian Ocean Region and advancing peace, security, connectivity, and sustainable development with trusted maritime partners.
