Srinagar, Jun 27,2025 : In a significant political development, two former Jammu and Kashmir ministers—Taj Mohiuddin and Ghulam Mohammad Saroori—returned to the Congress party on Friday after parting ways in 2022 to join Ghulam Nabi Azad-led Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP).
The leaders were welcomed back at the Congress office in Srinagar by AICC general secretary in charge of J&K and Ladakh, Naseer Hussain, J&K Congress chief Tariq Hamid Karra, and other senior leaders.
Mohiuddin, a veteran from Uri constituency in Baramulla, had joined DPAP in August 2022 following Azad’s exit from Congress, later contesting unsuccessfully as an Independent in the 2024 Assembly polls. Saroori also left Congress the same year and contested from Inderwal after being denied a DPAP ticket, but was unsuccessful.
Welcoming their return, Hussain said, “It’s a moment of joy. These are senior leaders who held key roles in the past, and we’re glad to have them back.”
Expressing remorse, Mohiuddin said, “I feel I never left Congress. I was on leave. I thank the leadership for forgiving my mistake.” Recalling his loyalty to the party during turbulent times in Kashmir, he added, “I was with Congress when no one dared to raise its flag.”
Saroori called his return a “homecoming,” stating, “Humans make mistakes. I apologize and pledge to strengthen the party in the coming days.”
