SRINAGAR, April 8, 2026 : The Jammu and Kashmir Congress has welcomed the ceasefire between the United States and Iran, calling for the temporary pause in hostilities to be transformed into a credible and structured peace process.
Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president Tariq Hameed Karra described the ceasefire as a “prudent and timely step” towards restoring stability in an increasingly fragile global environment.
Call for Lasting Peace Through Dialogue
Karra emphasized that sustainable peace cannot emerge from prolonged conflict, but through meaningful and balanced engagement.
“The international community must now convert this pause into a credible and structured peace process, where dialogue replaces distrust and stability is pursued without compromising fundamental principles,” he said.
He stressed that such engagement must respect sovereignty, acknowledge legitimate concerns, and preserve the dignity of all parties involved.
Lessons from History
Drawing a historical parallel with the Battle of Khaybar, Karra noted that the 40-day duration of the recent confrontation reflects endurance, patience, and strategic clarity.
“The message from these 40 days is unmistakable: restraint, backed by resolve, ultimately shapes the pathway to peace,” he added.
Conclusion
The Congress leader’s remarks underline the need for global stakeholders to seize the opportunity presented by the ceasefire and work towards a durable and inclusive peace framework.
