NEW DELHI, May 26, 2026 : The Delhi High Court on Tuesday granted interim bail from June 25 to June 30 to jailed Baramulla MP Sheikh Abdul Rashid, popularly known as Engineer Rashid, to enable him to attend post-death rituals of his father in Srinagar.
A division bench comprising Justices Prathiba M Singh and Madhu Jain directed that Rashid must surrender on June 2 following the expiry of his currently ongoing interim bail granted on May 18 for attending his father’s last rites.
Senior counsel appearing for Rashid had urged the court to extend his interim bail to allow him to participate in religious ceremonies to be observed on the 40th day of his father’s burial.
The High Court ordered that after surrendering on June 2, Rashid would again be released on interim bail from June 25 to June 30 specifically to attend the scheduled rites and ceremonies.
The court clarified that the conditions imposed during the current interim bail period would also remain applicable during the fresh release period.
Earlier, on May 18, the High Court had directed that Rashid remain accompanied by at least two plainclothes police personnel during his interim bail. He was also restricted to visiting the burial ground and places of worship and barred from moving freely beyond his residence.
Previously, on April 28, the court had granted him one-week interim bail to meet his ailing father in Srinagar. The relief was later extended till May 10 after his father was shifted to AIIMS New Delhi for treatment.
Engineer Rashid has been lodged in Delhi’s Tihar Jail since 2019 after being arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with a 2017 terror-funding case.
He faces allegations of funding separatist and terror-related activities in Jammu & Kashmir. In March 2022, a special NIA court framed charges against Rashid and others under multiple sections of the IPC, including criminal conspiracy, waging war against the government and sedition, along with provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
