Bhopal, May 29, 2026 : A local court in Bhopal on Friday remanded former district judge Giribala Singh, the mother-in-law of deceased model-actress Twisha Sharma, to five days of CBI custody in connection with the high-profile death case. The court also extended the CBI custody of Twisha’s husband, Samarth Singh, by another five days.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) produced both accused before the court and sought custodial interrogation, stating that detailed questioning and confrontation between the two were necessary to uncover the circumstances surrounding Twisha Sharma’s death.
Justice Shobhana Bhalawe’s court accepted the CBI’s plea and granted five-day custody of Giribala Singh while extending the existing remand of Samarth Singh, a lawyer by profession.
Advocate Anurag Srivastava, representing Twisha Sharma’s family, told reporters that both accused would remain in CBI custody until 2 pm on June 2.
He said the investigating agency informed the court that extensive interrogation was required to ascertain the facts and verify contradictions in the statements of the accused.
“We now feel that the investigation is moving in the right direction. The real facts will come to light,” Srivastava said after the hearing.
Earlier, a sessions court had granted anticipatory bail to Giribala Singh on May 15. However, the Madhya Pradesh High Court on Wednesday quashed the relief while hearing petitions seeking cancellation of her bail.
In a detailed 17-page order, Justice Devnarayan Mishra observed that the anticipatory bail granted by the lower court deserved to be set aside considering the allegations and factual aspects of the case.
Following the High Court’s order, the CBI arrested Giribala Singh on Thursday.
Before being produced in court on Friday, both accused underwent medical examinations at JP Hospital in Bhopal.
CBI officials brought Giribala Singh and Samarth Singh to the court premises in separate vehicles. During the hearing, the mother-son duo was placed in the same dock.
According to officials, the CBI plans to confront both accused face-to-face during interrogation in order to reconstruct the events leading to the death of the 33-year-old former model and actress.
Twisha Sharma was allegedly found hanging at her in-laws’ residence in the Katara Hills area of Bhopal on May 12.
The CBI officially took over the investigation earlier this week and subsequently registered a fresh FIR naming Samarth Singh and Giribala Singh as accused in the case.
Twisha’s family members have alleged that she was subjected to continuous mental and physical harassment, including domestic violence and dowry-related torture, by her husband and mother-in-law following her marriage on December 9, 2025.
According to the family, the alleged harassment and pressure drove Twisha to take the extreme step.
Prior to her arrest, Giribala Singh had denied all allegations in multiple media interviews and claimed that Twisha had mental health and medical issues, assertions strongly disputed by the victim’s family.
The case has attracted widespread public attention and intensified demands for a thorough and transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the actress’s death.
