RAJOURI, May 25, 2026 : The massive search operation launched to track down suspected terrorists hiding in the dense forest area of Rajouri district entered its third consecutive day on Monday, officials said.
The joint operation, codenamed โOperation Sheruwaliโ, is being carried out by the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) following specific intelligence inputs regarding suspicious movement in the Dorimal-Gambhir Moghla belt.
An encounter had broken out on Saturday after security forces established contact with the suspected terrorists during the intelligence-based operation.
Officials said a strong cordon remains in place while surveillance has been intensified across the area. Security agencies have expanded search operations to adjoining forest regions with the assistance of drones, sniffer dogs and additional troop deployment to track down the terrorists believed to be hiding in the difficult terrain.
โThe operation to track down suspected terrorists is going on amid a strong cordon. Surveillance has also been put in place,โ officials said.
The operation witnessed a brief exchange of fire after contact was established with the suspected terrorists, following which extensive searches continued across the forested belt.
According to preliminary reports, the movement of two to three terrorists is suspected in the area.
The Armyโs White Knight Corps, in a post on X, stated that contact with terrorists was established around 11:30 am on Saturday in the general area of Gambhir Moghla during the joint operation conducted with Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF.
Security forces are continuing the anti-terror operation with heightened alertness as efforts remain underway to neutralise the threat and secure the region.
