JAMMU, April 14, 2026 : In a decisive push to make Jammu and Kashmir drug-free, security forces have intensified a large-scale crackdown on drug cartels under the 100-day Nasha Mukt Abhiyan, with special focus on border districts to dismantle supply chains and curb cross-border trafficking.
The campaign was formally launched by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha from Maulana Azad Stadium, marking the beginning of a comprehensive, multi-agency mission involving police, security forces, and civil stakeholders.
🔷 Focus on Border Drug Networks
Officials revealed that districts like Jammu, Kathua, and Samba—which share proximity with the international border—are key hotspots for drug smuggling.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Shridhar Patil emphasized that the primary objective is to break the entire supply chain, targeting smugglers, local conduits, and receivers.
“Receivers, conduits, and users—all are under scanner. No habitual offender will be spared,” he asserted.
🔷 Zero Tolerance & Multi-Agency Strategy
Special teams have been constituted to identify and dismantle networks operating in vulnerable regions. Law enforcement agencies are adopting a zero-tolerance policy, with coordinated operations aimed at both local peddlers and cross-border suppliers.
DIG Sandeep Wazir (Rajouri-Poonch Range) stated that strict directions have been issued to all police stations to take firm action against those involved directly or indirectly in drug trade. Increased naka checking, surveillance, and intelligence inputs are being used to curb trafficking.
🔷 Rehabilitation Alongside Enforcement
While strict action is being taken against traffickers, authorities are also focusing on rehabilitation and counselling for first-time offenders and addicts to reintegrate them into society.
Officials highlighted that identifying consumers is also helping trace suppliers and dismantle larger drug mafias.
🔷 Public Participation Key to Success
The campaign has witnessed rising public involvement, with locals acting as the “eyes and ears” of the police. Civil society groups, including Team Jammu, have also intensified awareness drives against drug abuse.
Chairman Zorawar Singh Jamwal stressed the urgency of strict action, warning against the region turning into a hub of drug abuse.

- Youth engagement
- Community participation
- Strict enforcement
- Rehabilitation
- Evaluation
LG Manoj Sinha reiterated that the fight against drugs is a collective responsibility, warning that assets of drug smugglers will be seized and networks dismantled without delay.
The Abhiyan marks one of the most aggressive anti-drug initiatives in the Union Territory, combining enforcement, awareness, and community participation to eliminate the menace from its roots.
