Jammu, October 9, 2025 : In a major boost to Jammu and Kashmir’s logistics network, Northern Railways on Thursday achieved a significant milestone by carrying out simultaneous unloading of two New Modified Goods (NMG) rakes loaded with Maruti Suzuki vehicles — a first in the Union Territory’s history.
According to Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Jammu Division, Uchit Singhal, the twin unloading operations were conducted at the Bari Brahmana terminal in Jammu and the Anantnag terminal in Kashmir, marking a new era in regional freight handling.
The rakes, originating from Gurugram (Delhi Division), carried 113 vehicles unloaded at Bari Brahmana and 118 vehicles at Anantnag. The consignment included popular Maruti Suzuki models such as Alto, Brezza, Eeco, Dzire, Wagon R, S-Presso, Ignis, Super Carry, and Ertiga.
“This is the first time such a large number of vehicles have been unloaded at both goods terminals of Jammu Division in a single day — a historic achievement for Northern Railways,” Singhal said.
He added that the development reflects the growing preference of trade and industry for rail transport over road, citing its cost-efficiency, reliability, and environmental benefits.
“With strengthened infrastructure and enhanced multimodal logistics, Indian Railways is transforming the supply chain landscape of J&K, ensuring faster deliveries, lower emissions, and safer bulk movement of goods,” Singhal noted.
