Mendhar, October 9, 2025 : A series of explosions occurred near the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district on Thursday after four landmines and a mortar shell went off, officials said. No casualties were reported.
The first explosion took place in Sagra village of Mankote area when an earthmover struck a buried mortar shell while digging. The driver escaped unhurt, though the blast caused panic in the area.
Police and security teams rushed to the spot and launched a probe. Officials said the mortar shell had likely remained unexploded during past cross-border shelling.
Separately, on Wednesday, four landmines detonated in the Balakote sector after being dislocated from the anti-infiltration fence due to recent heavy rains. A bomb disposal squad safely activated and neutralised them.
All explosions occurred without any loss of life or property, the officials confirmed.
