New Delhi, October 14, 2025 : India’s rice export potential is set for a major leap, with new markets worth ₹1.17 lakh crore expected to open up following the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) joining the Bharat International Rice Conference (BIRC) 2025 as its Research and Knowledge Partner.
The two-day event, scheduled for October 30–31, 2025 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, will bring together over 1,000 international buyers from 80+ countries, 2,500 Indian exporters, 5,000 farmers, and 200 institutions, including research bodies, financial institutions, millers, logistics providers, and agri-tech innovators.
In a statement, the Indian Rice Exporters Federation (IREF) said the collaboration marks a landmark moment for India’s agriculture and export sectors. The IRRI South Asia Regional Centre (ISARC) in Varanasi—established in 2018 and inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi—will spearhead scientific and knowledge-based contributions to the event.
“IRRI’s partnership will transform BIRC 2025 into a complete global experience — combining science, sustainability, and the sensory power of rice,” said Prem Garg, National President, IREF and Chairman, Shri Lal Mahal Group.
As the Research & Knowledge Partner, IRRI will host expert-led sessions, policy dialogues, and live demonstrations on sustainable rice systems and value addition. It will also curate a Culinary Experience Zone in partnership with APEDA, where international chefs will prepare global cuisines—such as Japanese sushi, Arabic dishes, Italian entrees, and African delicacies—using selected Indian rice varieties, including premium non-basmati.
The initiative aims to expand Indian rice into new global cuisines, positioning it as a viable substitute in markets currently dominated by other exporting nations.
Experts believe that IRRI’s participation will significantly enhance the scientific, cultural, and strategic value of BIRC 2025 — aligning India’s trade ambitions with global standards of sustainability, nutrition, and innovation.
