Jammu, February 7, 2026 : Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday said that the enthusiasm of tourists from across India to visit Jammu and Kashmir has not diminished, despite last year’s terror attack in Pahalgam that adversely impacted the tourism sector.
Addressing a review meeting in Jammu to assess the progress of development projects in the Union Territory, Shah stressed the need for aggressive marketing of J&K’s tourist destinations in other states to fully tap the region’s tourism potential.
“The enthusiasm of tourists from across the country to visit Jammu and Kashmir has not diminished. There is a need for aggressive marketing of Jammu and Kashmir’s tourist destinations in other states to explore the tourism potential available here,” he said.
The Home Minister assured that the BJP-led central government would extend all possible assistance for developing new tourist destinations across Jammu and Kashmir.
On April 22 last year, Pakistani terrorists linked to the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) targeted tourists at the south Kashmir hill resort of Pahalgam, killing 26 people and delivering a major blow to the region’s tourism industry.
