New Delhi, 16 August 2026 :Ten members of the Rajya Sabha have been elected to various statutory bodies, including governing bodies of AIIMS institutes across the country, after the number of candidates matched the number of vacancies.
According to a notification issued by the Rajya Sabha Secretariat, the members were declared elected without a contest as the number of nominated candidates was equal to the available positions.
Rajya Sabha MPs Elected to AIIMS Bodies
The MPs elected to serve on various AIIMS governing bodies include:
- Gulam Ali — AIIMS, Awantipora
- Ashok Kumar Mittal — AIIMS, Bathinda
- Rajneesh Kumar Agrawal — AIIMS, Bhopal
- Birendra Prasad Baishya — AIIMS, Guwahati
- Sat Paul Sharma — AIIMS, Vijaypur, Jammu & Kashmir
- I. S. Inbadurai — AIIMS, Madurai
- Madan Rathore — AIIMS, Jodhpur
Other Statutory Bodies
Other Rajya Sabha members elected to statutory institutions include:
- Lahar Singh Siroya — Central Silk Board
- Sikander Kumar — Council of the National Institutes of Food Technology, Entrepreneurship and Management
- Rekha Sharma — National Assisted Reproductive Technology and Surrogacy Board
The elections were necessitated as the number of candidates nominated for these positions was equal to the number of vacancies.
Members Elected to Key Parliamentary Committees
In separate notifications, the Rajya Sabha Secretariat announced the election of members to several important parliamentary committees.
Committee on Public Accounts (PAC):
- Sukhendu Sekhar Ray
- Tiruchi Siva
Committee on Public Undertakings (COPU):
- Mohammed Nadimul Haque
These members were declared duly elected after the number of candidates matched the available positions.
OBC Welfare Committee Gets New Members
Members were also declared elected to the Committee on Welfare of Other Backward Classes (OBC) for a term of one year beginning from the date of the committee’s first sitting.
The elected members are:
Masthan Rao Yadav Beedha, Subhasish Khuntia, Amar Pal Maurya, Mayankkumar Nayak, A. A. Rahim, K. R. N. Rajeshkumar, Kalpana Saini, Paka Venkata Satyanarayana, Ashok Singh and Bhim Singh.
The latest appointments expand Rajya Sabha representation across major healthcare institutions, statutory bodies and parliamentary oversight committees, placing members in positions that contribute to institutional governance, public accountability and policy oversight.
