JAMMU, April 14, 2026 : In a proud moment for Jammu and Kashmir, two young hockey talents have been selected as probables for the Indian Under-18 Men’s and Women’s teams for the upcoming U-18 Asia Cup in Japan.
Varunpreet Singh has been shortlisted for the Indian U-18 Men’s team following his impressive performance at the 16th Hockey India Sub Junior National Hockey Championship 2026, where he also earned a Man of the Match award. He will attend the national coaching camp in Bhopal under coach Sardara Singh starting April 19.
On the women’s side, Akshara Dutta has been named a probable for the Indian U-18 Women’s team after a stellar showing at the Sub Junior Women’s Championship 2026 in Ranchi, where she emerged as the top scorer in her pool and clinched two Player of the Match awards. She will train under coach Rani Rampal.
The selected probables will prepare for the U-18 Asia Cup scheduled to be held in Kakamigahara, Japan, from May 29 to June 6, 2026.
Their selection highlights the growing sporting talent emerging from Jammu and Kashmir and reflects the region’s strengthening presence on the national hockey stage.
