BARAMULLA, April 23, 2026 : PDP president and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday launched a sharp attack on the Omar Abdullah-led National Conference government, accusing it of failing to fulfill key promises, including providing one lakh jobs to youth in Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing a workers’ convention in Baramulla, Mehbooba said rising unemployment has left many young people “victims of depression,” alleging that pre-poll assurances have not translated into results on the ground.
She also raised concerns over issues like land rights, electricity shortages, and closure of the Uri-Muzaffarabad road, calling it a setback for the region’s apple trade and economic activity.
Criticizing governance priorities, she said restrictions on tourist spots have impacted livelihoods, particularly for locals dependent on tourism and related work.
Highlighting PDP’s limited representation, Mehbooba said the party’s four MLAs face challenges in pressing public demands, while asserting that people’s expectations for change remain unmet.
