Jammu, April 28, 2026 : Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today attended the National Summit on “Sustainable & Climate Resilient Agroecosystems: Innovations and Policy Framework” at SKUAST Jammu, emphasizing the urgent need for a science-driven transformation in agriculture.
Addressing scientists, innovators, and policymakers, the LG called for a shift from incremental changes to bold, farmer-focused strategies aimed at building climate resilience. He stressed the importance of developing climate-adapted crop varieties and bridging the gap between research laboratories and farmlands.
Highlighting the critical role of agriculture, Sinha described farms as the “bedrock of civilization” and warned that climate change now threatens not just farmers but the entire ecosystem dependent on agriculture.
He noted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has made significant strides in agricultural production, with record outputs in food grains and horticulture. However, he cautioned that increasing extreme weather events underline the urgency for immediate and coordinated action.
The Lieutenant Governor outlined seven key commitments for climate-resilient agriculture, including farmer-led research, climate-responsive insurance, green credit systems, localized advisories, protection of traditional seeds, integrated policymaking, and transparent evaluation.
He also underscored the need for precision and regenerative farming, efficient water management, crop diversification, and greater use of technology in agriculture.
Calling attention to the challenges faced by small and marginal farmers, Sinha emphasized that those contributing least to climate change are often the most affected, urging stronger safeguards and financial support systems.
“Every farmer deserves real-time climate guidance, and every field must be treated as a national asset,” he said, reaffirming the commitment to preserving agriculture for future generations.
