Srinagar, April 28, 2026 : The ruling National Conference (NC) on Tuesday alleged a hidden understanding between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the BJP during last year’s Rajya Sabha elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
Citing information obtained through an RTI application, NC claimed that PDP was the only political party that did not appoint a chief agent to monitor voting during the polls for four Rajya Sabha seats.
According to NC, despite lacking the required numbers, the BJP managed to secure a seat—raising questions over the source of its votes. The party alleged that the absence of a PDP monitoring agent played a crucial role in the outcome.
The NC further stated that while PDP had publicly pledged support to its candidates to keep BJP out, the RTI findings suggest otherwise.
Calling it a “tacit alliance,” NC said the development exposes contradictions between PDP’s public stance and its actions, terming it a continuation of the 2014 PDP-BJP alliance.
The allegations have intensified political tensions in the region, with the issue likely to spark further debate over transparency and electoral conduct.
