JAMMU, April 30, 2026 : In a major security boost, 21 security personnel—including elite RPF commandos—have been deployed onboard the Jammu–Srinagar Vande Bharat Express to ensure passenger safety along the sensitive rail corridor.
The high-speed train was flagged off by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in the presence of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Union Minister Jitendra Singh. Regular services will begin from May 2.
🛡️ Multi-Layered Security Setup
According to Principal Chief Security Commissioner Pankaj Gangwar, a “1+20 security model” has been implemented:
- 1 Inspector leading the team
- 20 personnel, including 8 CORAS commandos (Commandos for Railway Security)
- Equipped with advanced weapons and surveillance tools
🚓 Advanced Safety Measures Along Route
- Pilot vehicle runs ahead of the train to inspect tracks
- Guard posts every 2 km with Quick Reaction Teams (GRP + local police)
- Tunnel security system with sensors to detect fire or intrusion
- Round-the-clock monitoring at both ends of tunnels
- Emergency escape tunnels for passenger evacuation
🌉 Mega Infrastructure Backbone
The 327-km rail line—built at a cost of ₹43,780 crore—features:
- 36 tunnels spanning 119 km
- 943 bridges across Difficult terrain
This all-weather rail link connects Kashmir with the rest of India, boosting mobility, tourism, and economic integration.
🇮🇳 A Strategic Milestone
The security deployment builds upon the earlier milestone when Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the first Katra–Srinagar Vande Bharat service on June 6, 2025.
