Srinagar, May 12,2026 : The Economic Offences Wing Kashmir on Tuesday registered three separate cases against a resident of Kupwara for allegedly duping several people on the false promise of providing government jobs in various departments and financial institutions.
Officials identified the accused as Abdul Majeed Mir, a resident of Lastiyal Kalaroos in Kupwara district.
According to the agency, the cases were registered after a preliminary investigation revealed that the accused had allegedly collected huge sums of money from multiple victims by falsely assuring them of securing government employment.
Investigators said the accused allegedly prepared and supplied fake and forged appointment orders purportedly issued by government departments and J&K Bank in order to gain the trust of victims and carry out the fraud.
The Economic Offences Wing stated that the acts committed by the accused prima facie attract offences punishable under relevant sections of the erstwhile Ranbir Penal Code, the Indian Penal Code and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Officials further revealed that Abdul Majeed Mir is a habitual offender and that the Crime Branch Kashmir had already filed chargesheets against him in two previous fraud-related cases.
The agency said further investigation is underway to identify additional victims, financial transactions and possible links connected to the alleged scam.
