Srinagar, May 16, 2026 : The High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh has revised the pecuniary jurisdiction limits of Civil Judges (Junior Division) and Civil Judges (Senior Division) across the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
According to an official notification issued by the Office of the Registrar General under Section 21 of the Jammu and Kashmir Civil Courts Act, 1977, all Civil Judges (Senior Division) have now been empowered to hear civil suits valued up to ₹20 lakh within their territorial jurisdiction.
Similarly, Civil Judges (Junior Division) have been authorised to adjudicate civil suits valued up to ₹5 lakh within their respective local jurisdictions.
The revised pecuniary limits will come into effect from June 1, 2026, the notification stated.
The High Court further clarified that all civil suits pending before courts as on May 31, 2026, shall continue to remain before the respective courts where they are currently pending, irrespective of the revised jurisdictional limits.
The notification has been issued by Registrar General M.K. Sharma and circulated among judicial officers, subordinate courts, and concerned government departments for implementation and publication in the Government Gazette.
The move is expected to streamline the functioning of subordinate courts and improve the efficiency of civil case disposal across Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
