SRINAGAR, May 20, 2026 : Renowned surgical oncologist and robotic cancer specialist Dr Asim Rizvi, a native of Nabdipora Hawal in Srinagar, passed away in Noida following a suspected cardiac arrest, reports said on Wednesday.
The sudden demise of Dr Rizvi has deeply shocked the medical fraternity, patients and well-wishers across the country, with many mourning the loss of a highly respected surgeon known for his exceptional expertise, humility and compassionate patient care.
Dr Rizvi was serving as the Principal Director of Surgical Oncology and Robotic Surgery at Yashoda Medicity, where he earned widespread recognition for performing advanced gastrointestinal, colorectal, liver and pancreatic cancer surgeries using minimally invasive and robotic-assisted techniques.
According to sources, Dr Rizvi suffered a sudden heart-related medical emergency. However, no official statement confirming the exact cause of death had been issued at the time of reporting.
A distinguished figure in the field of oncology, Dr Rizvi had received specialised international training in laparoscopic and robotic cancer surgery. He had completed advanced fellowships in Colorectal and Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary OncoSurgery, including prestigious training at Yonsei University in South Korea.
Over the years, he became widely known for successfully handling highly complex cancer surgeries and for promoting precision-based, patient-centric treatment approaches in surgical oncology.
Recently, Yashoda Medicity had highlighted one of Dr Rizvi’s remarkable pancreatic cancer surgeries involving a complex Whipple procedure performed on a 70-year-old patient, describing it as a “miracle of the day.”
Tributes and condolences have continued to pour in from doctors, colleagues, patients and members of the Kashmiri community, remembering Dr Rizvi as a brilliant surgeon and a compassionate human being whose contributions to cancer care will be remembered for years to come.
