ANANTNAG, May 20, 2026 : In a heartfelt tribute to the courage and sacrifice of slain tourist guide Aadil Hussain Shah, the Jammu & Kashmir Government has renamed a government school in South Kashmir’s Hapatnar area after him.
The institution, previously known as Hapatnar High School, has now officially been renamed Shaheed Aadil Memorial High School during a ceremony attended by Minister Sakeena Itoo in Anantnag district.
Aadil Hussain Shah lost his life while reportedly protecting tourists during last year’s terror incident in Pahalgam. His bravery and selfless sacrifice had drawn widespread admiration across Jammu & Kashmir and the country.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Sakeena Itoo said Aadil’s courage, humanity and sacrifice would forever remain an inspiration for society and future generations.
“He sacrificed his own life while trying to save innocent visitors. Such bravery and humanity can never be forgotten,” the minister said.
Recalling the tragic incident, Itoo stated that she had personally visited the attack site on the same night, adding that the incident deeply affected everyone.
She said the government’s decision to rename the school was aimed at honouring Aadil’s martyrdom and ensuring that young students continue to remember his sacrifice and dedication toward humanity.
The minister further stated that the recognition would also serve as emotional support for the bereaved family and help preserve the legacy of the slain hero for generations to come.
The tribute has been widely appreciated by locals and residents who described the move as a meaningful recognition of courage and sacrifice in the face of terror.
