RAJOURI, May 24, 2026 : Security forces on Sunday intensified anti-terror search operations and strengthened the security cordon in Rajouri district following a brief encounter with suspected terrorists in the forested belt of the region, officials said.
According to officials, additional troops have been deployed in the Dorimal-Gambhir Moghla area to assist in the ongoing operation aimed at tracking down terrorists believed to be hiding in the dense terrain.
“Search operations have been intensified in the Dorimal-Gambhir Moghla area and the cordon has been strengthened,” officials said.
The operation was launched jointly by the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on Saturday after receiving specific intelligence inputs regarding suspicious militant movement in the area.
During the intelligence-based cordon-and-search operation, security forces established contact with the suspected terrorists, leading to a brief exchange of fire.
Following the encounter, forces expanded the operation and launched extensive searches across the forest belt to prevent the suspects from escaping.
Preliminary reports suggested that movement of two to three terrorists had been detected in the area.
Officials said reinforcements have been rushed to strengthen the search grid and maintain surveillance over possible escape routes.
Meanwhile, security forces also launched another search operation in the Gudha Brahmana area of Akhnoor in Jammu district after receiving information about suspicious movement.
According to officials, a local woman informed security personnel that she had seen three to four masked individuals near her residence whose activities appeared suspicious.
Acting swiftly on the information, security personnel cordoned off nearby villages and launched searches to verify the inputs and trace the suspects.
The operations in both Rajouri and Akhnoor areas were continuing when reports last came in.
