CHANDIGARH, May 27, 2026 : In a sensational achievement, 15-year-old batting prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has created history by smashing the highest number of sixes ever recorded in a single Indian Premier League (IPL) season.
During the IPL Eliminator clash between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh PCA International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, the young sensation surpassed the legendary Chris Gayle’s long-standing record of 59 sixes set during the 2012 IPL season.
Sooryavanshi has now smashed 60+ sixes this season — and the count is still rising.
Adding another milestone to his remarkable campaign, the teenage batter also became the youngest player ever to score 600 runs in a single IPL season.
The explosive left-hander has dominated bowlers throughout the tournament, with an astonishing 54 percent of his runs coming through sixes. Statistics further highlight his fearless batting approach, as he has hit a six every 4.7 balls this season.
