Srinagar,  June 1, 2026 : In a major step towards strengthening Jammu and Kashmir’s hospitality infrastructure, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday inaugurated a newly constructed additional accommodation block at the historic Circuit House, Church Lane, Srinagar. The state-of-the-art facility is aimed at enhancing lodging arrangements and providing improved amenities for visiting dignitaries, officials, and guests.

The project has been executed by the Public Works (R&B) Department under the Capital Expenditure (Capex) budget at an estimated cost of ₹781.34 lakh.

Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary, MLA Lal Chowk Sheikh Ahsan Ahmad (Pardesi), Secretary Hospitality & Protocol Avny Lavasa, Director Hospitality & Protocol Ashwani Kumar, along with several senior government officers, were present during the inauguration ceremony.

The newly developed accommodation block is a modern three-storeyed structure comprising a basement, ground floor, and two upper floors. Designed to meet contemporary hospitality standards, the facility includes 18 well-appointed accommodation units, consisting of 12 standard rooms and six premium suites.

Equipped with advanced amenities, the building features a 13-passenger OTIS lift, a central heating system, air-conditioning facilities, dedicated linen and storage rooms, and a ramp for differently-abled persons, ensuring accessibility and convenience for all visitors.

A notable highlight of the project is the thoughtful integration of traditional Kashmiri craftsmanship with modern architectural design. The standard rooms have been elegantly finished with wallpapered interiors, carved rubberwood bed-back panels, traditional Khatamband ceilings, and laminated flooring. The suites offer a more luxurious experience with premium interior décor, including laminated wall panels, MDF slat walls, Duco-finished fittings, and intricate Khatamband ceiling work that reflects the rich cultural heritage of Kashmir.

Following the inauguration, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah conducted a detailed inspection of the facility and reviewed various sections of the newly constructed block. He appreciated the quality of construction, aesthetic appeal, and the seamless incorporation of traditional Kashmiri design elements into the modern structure.

The Chief Minister observed that the upgraded accommodation facilities would significantly enhance the hospitality experience for guests visiting Jammu and Kashmir while further strengthening the region’s capacity to host official delegations and dignitaries.

The project marks another important addition to the Union Territory’s infrastructure development initiatives, reflecting the government’s commitment to modernizing public facilities while preserving the unique architectural identity of Kashmir.
