Srinagar, June 3, 2026 : Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday flagged off a vibrant cyclothon at the Royal Springs Golf Course (RSGC) in Srinagar to commemorate World Bicycle Day, underscoring the importance of fitness, environmental sustainability and youth engagement.

The event was organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council under its flagship initiative “My Youth My Pride” and witnessed enthusiastic participation from cyclists, students, youth and sports enthusiasts from various parts of the Kashmir Valley.

On the occasion, the Chief Minister launched the mascot, official jersey and publicity campaign for the upcoming Jammu Cyclothon and formally announced the event dates. He also advocated for elevating the Kashmir Cyclothon to a national-level sporting event that could attract cyclists from across the country and showcase Jammu and Kashmir as a premier destination for adventure tourism and sporting activities.

Addressing participants, Omar Abdullah praised the growing interest among young people in cycling and highlighted the need to adopt active and healthy lifestyles to enhance both physical and mental well-being.

He described cycling as an eco-friendly and sustainable mode of transport that not only improves public health but also contributes significantly to environmental conservation efforts.

The Chief Minister also commended the initiatives undertaken by the Youth Services and Sports Department and the J&K Sports Council for promoting sports culture and encouraging large-scale public participation in recreational and fitness-oriented activities.

The cyclothon began from the Royal Springs Golf Course and traversed the scenic Foreshore Road before concluding at Duck Park, covering a distance of approximately 20 kilometres.

The event reflected the administration’s focus on promoting fitness, youth empowerment and sustainable living while strengthening Jammu and Kashmir’s image as an emerging destination for sports and outdoor activities.
