SRINAGAR, June 6, 2026 : Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday chaired a high-level meeting of senior party leaders at her residence in Khimber, on the outskirts of Srinagar, to review the party’s organizational affairs and discuss the prevailing political situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
According to a party spokesperson, the meeting witnessed participation from the PDP’s top leadership, including Vice President Mohammad Sartaj Madni, Parliamentary Board Chairman Abdul Rahim Veeri, General Secretary (Organisation) Ghulam Nabi Hanjura, and Chief Spokesperson Mehboob Beg.
Several senior leaders, including Naeem Akhtar, Basharat Bukhari, Mansoor Hussain, and Yasir Reshi, were also present during the deliberations. PDP legislators Rafiq Ahmad Naik, Fayaz Ahmad Mir, and Waheed Parra attended the meeting as well.
“The meeting discussed party functioning and recent political developments in Jammu and Kashmir,” the spokesperson said.
Sources within the party indicated that discussions focused on strengthening the PDP’s organizational structure, enhancing outreach efforts and assessing the current political environment in the Union Territory.
The meeting assumes significance amid increasing political activity in Jammu and Kashmir and a series of recent confrontations between the ruling National Conference (NC) and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on various public and governance-related issues.
In recent weeks, the PDP has intensified its criticism of the Omar Abdullah-led government over matters including the progress of the AIIMS Awantipora project, governance concerns, public service delivery and accountability.
Party leaders reportedly reviewed ongoing political developments and discussed strategies to effectively raise issues affecting the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
The deliberations also come at a time when opposition parties are seeking to sharpen their political engagement across the Union Territory, with public welfare, development projects, employment and governance emerging as key issues in the political discourse.
Political observers view the meeting as part of the PDP’s efforts to consolidate its organizational structure and formulate its future political strategy amid the evolving political landscape of Jammu and Kashmir.
